1. Introduction
A disease is a pathological
or abnormal condition of a part or system of an organism that impairs
its function. This is a result of causes, such as infection or genetic
defect, and is identifiable by a group of symptoms. The term of
disease and the term of disorder are often used interchangeably though
distinctions are made for specific contexts.
The subject of systematic classification
of diseases is referred to as nosology. Its cause is called its
etiology. Etiology is the theory or study of the cause(s) of disease.
This is distinguished from symptomatology which is the study of symptoms
or a syndrome.
Aristotle indicated that why
something exists is because it has a material cause (is made of something),
it has a formal cause (has a pattern/structure), has an efficient cause
(an agent imposed the form on the matter), and has a final cause (has
a purpose). Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.), called a righteous
pagan by the Catholic Church, noted that there are two kinds of causes.
One cause is certain to produce an effect, such as fire burns.
The second cause does not produce the effect but the effect cannot occur
without the cause, such as brass cannot produce a statue but the (brass)
statue cannot be made without the brass.
In 1948, Burrhus F. Skinner
wrote that he had observed superstitious behavior in pigeons.
The pigeons were fed at set time intervals regardless of the pigeons'
actions. Some pigeons would swing their heads, another made turns,
while others displayed a variety of behaviors. Skinner reasoned
the pigeons were trying to influence their feeding schedule and concluded
that this was a model for superstition in humans.
In 1971, J. E. R. Staddon and
V. L. Simmelhag disputed Skinner's theory of superstition. Many
scholars have observed that reinforcement can cause behavior but Skinner's
pigeons were behaving in a manner common to all pigeons. Skinner's
critics were implying that Skinner himself, ironically, had wrongly
observed (his method/cause) the cause of the pigeons behavior (his accurate
data/effect) and was by Skinner's own term, "superstitious."
We can see that care should
be taken when deducing that behavior A is equal to disease
B. It is even of more concern to not inductively say that
disease B was only caused by behavior A
when there may be numerous causes of one disease besides set A. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes acquired immunodeficiency
syndrome (AIDS) and is common to practicing male homosexuals.
AIDS is not only transferred by sexual behavior, but can be transferred
from a mother to her child or from a blood transfusion.
Coronary heart disease is not
a single disease. It is a complex of diseases with a varied etiology.
Heart disease may result from a congenital defect, viral or parasitic
diseases. Syphilis can also lead to heart disease along with smoking.
Smokers have cognitive dissonance from the knowledge of smoking related
illnesses, which can lead to mental disorders. Liars may also
develop mental disorders from the cognitive dissonance that they are
fundamentally honest.
Henri Poincaré (1854-1912)
observed that when forecasting the bounce of a billiard ball the first
bounce could be predicted with good accuracy. By the ninth bounce,
the gravity from persons in the room needed to included in the calculation.
At bounce 53, all the atoms in the universe would need to be calculated
for an accurate forecast. Therefore, humans will never be perfect
in predicting causes and effects. This reality should not discourage
the application of what is thought to be known as true. What we
don't know may be negative or may end up being positive.
The World Health Organization
has published a 10th revision of an International Classification
of Diseases (ICD-10). The National Library of Medicine uses Medical
Subject Headings (MeSH) codes to categorize diseases into a semantic
tree structure. In 2007, Systematic political science uses the
Decalogue and its subsets or Natural Law of Freewill to form a nonexhaustive
list of taxa for all possible human behavior called NLF-07. The NLF-07 may be
used to deductively show the possible nexus of ICD-10 and MeSH effects
caused by violations of NLF. Therein the suffering and monetary
costs to society can be approximated for individual and institutional
decision-making.

5. Conclusion
The presented nexus (model)
allows for an etiological estimation of individuals from current statistics.
For example, exhibitors of a 1-Dn-11 violation are likely to have or
develop A00-B99, D50-D89, F00-F99, X60-X84 and C01, C02, C12, C20, F03
which will require treatment. The cost of that effort can be estimated
and strategies formed to properly allocate resources. It should
be remembered that violations of NLF may not always seem to be a natural
sequitur (e.g. Num. 12:1-10, II Kings 5:25-27, II Chr. 26:16-21,
Dan. 4:32-34, Acts 12:23, I Sam. 5:6-12, II Chr. 21:13-19, etc.).
Lastly, individuals can see the value of complying with God's laws,
repent of violations, and have goals of complying with His NLF (James
5:20).
